The Cause

3 years ago whilst travelling through Tanzania I was unlucky enough to get malaria, partly due to not being covered by a mosquito net enough. A net was available to me but is not currently available to millions of Africans

.

About 3.3 billion people - half of the world's population, are at risk of malaria. Every year, this leads to about 250 million malaria cases and nearly one million deaths, mostly in children under 5.

Malaria is especially a serious problem in Africa, where one in every five (20%) childhood deaths is due to the effects of the disease. An African child has on average between 1.6 and 5.4 episodes of malaria fever each year and every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria.

Malaria consortium not only ditributes long lasting insecticide treated nets it also educates the recipients on using the nets and does follow up checks to make sure they are used properly. They operate in many of the countries I will be cycling through.

It costs a mere £5 to make and deliver a mosquito net that can provide essential protection at night for 2 children or a pregnant mother, please sponsor as many nets as you can, my aim is to raise £5000 which will fund 1000 nets.

In the time it has taken for you to read this 2 children have died of Malaria. Please help...
